A British man has been jailed for three years after a case of Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs was reported in a British online newspaper.
Dr John Smith, 37, was jailed for three years after he was arrested last month for the alleged offences.
The court heard he was seeking the treatment of a "strong" female patient.
He is also suspected of taking Viagra, the paper reported.
"The police have arrested him at a chemist and the court heard that he had taken the medication in the last few days, and was taking it for three years without any treatment," the paper said.
It said he had "made arrangements" to sell the drug, which has been prescribed to "strong women" and "hormones", to be sold in Britain.
The report, published online Tuesday, said that Smith had been jailed for three years after the investigation and the online newspaper "could be viewed as a potentially dangerous case".
Smith, who has a criminal record of more than three years' imprisonment, had also been charged with a crime, it said.
He has also been convicted of importing a controlled substance in the UK. A criminal investigation has been launched into his activities, the newspaper said.
The investigation has revealed that Smith, who was arrested in the UK last year, had been charged with the possession of a controlled substance in the UK, which is used to distribute the drugs.
The drug is used to treat erectile dysfunction, a condition in which a man's ability to get and keep an erection lasts for less than four hours.
Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, works by increasing blood flow to the penis.
However, the drug is also known to increase the risk of developing a heart attack or stroke in some men.
The Daily Mail - who are part of the newspaper's online community - said Smith had been jailed for three years for the offence.

He was being held on £100,000 bail in the UK on Thursday.
The court heard the online newspaper has said "he had made arrangements" to sell the drug, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction. The newspaper said it had received reports of Smith and his colleagues being arrested in the UK, but did not state they were being held in jail.
The paper said Smith had been jailed for three years for his offence, while the online newspaper reported it was "further investigation" that led to the arrest. The online newspaper was also set to publish an investigation into the case.A spokesman for the company Pfizer said the company was aware of the case and had been investigating the case.
Pfizer said: "The company is aware of a number of reports and we have taken action against those who have committed similar offences."The investigation is ongoing and we intend to continue with our investigations into the case."
The Daily Mail said: "It is very difficult to believe that the online newspaper had such a serious interest in the issue of Viagra, but in any case it is quite likely that the police have taken steps to investigate and arrest Mr Smith.
"It is also very difficult to believe that the online newspaper had such a strong interest in the issue of erectile dysfunction and its use.
"It is important that men of this sex life who have been diagnosed with erectile dysfunction and who are suffering from other health conditions such as diabetes or high cholesterol are referred to a doctor, who will work with them on the diagnosis, treatment and advice of a specialist.
"This is particularly important to men who have not been diagnosed with other health conditions, or who may have been diagnosed with a different condition, or who may be suffering from an underlying medical condition, or who may have suffered from other conditions which might affect their sexual health.
"The newspaper should not be taken as a case of 'fatality' as the drug is a medication that is used to treat a variety of other conditions, including high cholesterol and diabetes.
"Men who suffer from erectile dysfunction have been given a range of other health conditions, including diabetes and high cholesterol, which may affect their sexual performance.
The cheapest erectile dysfunction (ED) pills are generic Viagra, called.
The term "generic" refers to the active ingredient of a medicine or drug rather than to the advertised brand name under which the medicine is sold. It is a term referring to any drug marketed under its chemical name without advertising.
Pfizer made the originaltablet that is often referred to as the “blue pill”.The patent expired in 2013 which then allowed other pharmaceutical manufactures to make a generic version under the name of the active ingredient called Sildenafil. They are exactly the same medically and perform in the same way with the same side-effects.
As with most branded products, Viagra is sold at a higher price, therefore the generic tablets sold asare much cheaper.
Medically there is no difference between a generic medicine and the branded medicine, as they both have the same active ingredients to make them perform in the same way. They only differ in the “bulking” agents used to fill the tablet as the amount of active ingredient required, in this case Sildenafil, is very small. This makes the tablets bigger and easier to handle.
The main difference between generic andbranded named prescription medicines is cost with generics being much cheaper
Every pharmacy can choose what price they sell at, as there are no fixed prices. It will depend on what price the pharmacy can buy the drug from the wholesaler and the cost of their own overheads. You will then know and have the confidence that all the brands being offered are genuine and will work in the same way. All the pharmaceutical companies are inspected by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to ensure they manufacturer the drugs to the same quality standard. This means that the key ingredient that is referred to as the “active” ingredient is exactly the same in all brands.
The other inactive ingredients that make up the bulk of the tablet are called “excipients” and can vary.
For those people who are allergic to or have an intolerance to lactose, then the is ideal for you as it is lactose free. You can check the additional excipients on the patient information leaflet supplied with your tablets.
Although medically all the generic tablets are identical, they may look different as they can vary in colour, shape and size due to the varying excipients.
The patent for, owned by Pfizer, expired in July 2013, which then allowed other pharmaceutical companies to produce generic. There are a number of companies now manufacturing which include Accord, Ajanta, Dr Reddy’s, Mylan, Teva, Torrent and Zentiva. Even Pfizer make a that they sell cheaper than Viagra although generally more expensive than the equivalent generic brands.
